Amazon Web Services and SAP SE announced an expanded collaboration Thursday to transform cloud enterprise resource planning and drive new capabilities using generative artificial intelligence.

The companies said the strategic partnership will make it easier for customers to adopt SAP's RISE solution on AWS, improve performance of SAP cloud workloads, and embed generative AI across business applications.

"AWS and SAP are making it faster and easier for companies to apply generative AI to their core business data to become more efficient, responsive, and sustainable," said Matt Garman, incoming AWS CEO.

A key part of the deal is integration of Amazon Bedrock's large language models like Claude 3 from Anthropic into SAP's generative AI hub. This will allow SAP customers to access high-performing foundation models to build customized applications using their data.

The companies also plan to expand use of Bedrock across SAP's cloud portfolio, including finance and product lifecycle management.

Additionally, SAP will use AWS' Graviton processors to support solutions like SAP HANA Cloud, delivering performance gains and energy efficiency. SAP has realized up to 30% better compute and an estimated 45% lower carbon footprint by using AWS' Graviton3 chip.

SAP also plans to utilize AWS' Trainium and Inferentia chips designed for AI workloads to train and deploy its Business AI offerings after achieving significant speedups in a recent proof of concept.

"Partnerships like this collaboration with AWS are critical as we embed generative AI solutions across our ERP applications," said SAP CEO Christian Klein.
