Cloudera acquires Verta to boost enterprise AI capabilities

Cloudera, a leading data company for enterprise AI solutions, announced Sunday it has acquired Verta's Operational AI Platform in a move to significantly enhance its artificial intelligence expertise and offerings.

Cloudera, a leading data company for enterprise AI solutions, announced Sunday it has acquired Verta's Operational AI Platform in a move to significantly enhance its artificial intelligence expertise and offerings.

The acquisition brings on board Verta's renowned team of AI experts, including founders Dr. Manasi Vartak and Dr. Conrado Miranda, pioneers in AI model management, serving, and governance. They will join Cloudera's machine learning group under Chief Product Officer Dipto Chakravarty.

"The future of data management is AI," said Cloudera CEO Charles Sansbury. "We are acquiring Verta to strengthen our team and accelerate operational AI capabilities for our global customers driving data and AI initiatives."

Verta's hybrid multi-cloud platform will bolster Cloudera's ability to meet rising demand for AI solutions across industries. The platform simplifies the process of turning datasets into custom AI applications, enabling developers to create and optimize large language models (LLMs) regardless of machine learning expertise.

Key capabilities from Verta's technology being integrated include a model catalog, AI governance tools, and features for building, operationalizing, monitoring, securing and scaling AI models enterprise-wide – addressing major hurdles in effective AI deployments.

"Good data breeds good models, which is why Verta's and Cloudera's technologies are a natural fit," said Vartak. "Cloudera manages 25% of the world's data, making it perfectly positioned to bring our innovations to reality and unlock organization-wide AI."

As the only true open data lakehouse enabling analytics and AI on business data across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, Cloudera provides a foundation for AI applications like chatbots, document summarization and code generation. The addition of Verta's operational AI capabilities enhances this platform.

The deal, with Jefferies LLC as Cloudera's financial advisor, represents a strategic move by Cloudera to extend its enterprise AI leadership through acquisitions and roadmap acceleration based on customer needs.

"This is the first of several strategic moves we expect as we extend our data and trusted enterprise AI leadership," said Sansbury. Financial details were not disclosed.
