Databricks, the data and AI company, announced Wednesday it experienced over 100% year-over-year business growth in Japan for its latest fiscal year, driven by surging demand for data and artificial intelligence capabilities across Japanese enterprises.

The company said it more than doubled its number of customers and partners locally. New Japanese customers that adopted Databricks' data intelligence platform over the past year include AEON, All Nippon Airways, Bridgestone, Cosmo Energy Holdings, Konica Minolta, Net One Systems and Renesas Electronics Corporation.

Globally, Databricks reached over $1.6 billion in revenue for its fiscal year ending Jan. 31, a greater than 50% year-over-year increase fueled by rapid product innovation.

Databricks recently launched DBRX, a large language model built entirely on its platform so companies can create and improve their own AI models. It plans to offer DBRX and multicloud AI training solutions in Japan starting next month.

"Building custom AI models trained on their proprietary data can help Japanese businesses tailor AI to their specific needs and improve generative AI applications," said Toshifumi Sasa, Databricks' vice president and Japan country manager.

The company more than doubled its Japanese partner ecosystem over the past year, adding alliances with Mitsui Knowledge Industry, NS Solutions and Macnica.
