GE HealthCare and Amazon Web Services announced a strategic collaboration Thursday to develop artificial intelligence models aimed at transforming healthcare delivery.

The partnership will focus on creating purpose-built foundation models and generative AI applications designed to improve medical diagnostics and patient care. GE HealthCare has selected AWS as its strategic cloud provider for this initiative.

The companies plan to use AWS's machine learning and generative AI technologies to train and deploy clinical foundation models. These models are intended to expedite clinical and operational workflows, potentially improving care delivery and easing provider workload.

GE HealthCare will utilize Amazon Bedrock to create and deploy custom generative AI applications for healthcare use cases. The company also plans to use Amazon Q Developer to accelerate software development and Amazon Q Business to explore the intersection of clinical and operational data.

By developing specialized foundation models for medical use cases, GE HealthCare aims to accelerate the development of web-based medical imaging applications and improve efficiency across its equipment and software solutions.

"GE HealthCare has been pioneering medical technology for more than a century. With more than one billion patients around the world touched by our products, we play an important part in improving the quality of care and have a responsibility to continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible to enable precision care," said Peter Arduini, President and CEO of GE HealthCare.

The collaboration comes as the healthcare sector grapples with vast amounts of untapped data. The partners hope their AI models will help analyze unstructured medical data, including records, reports, and images, to provide insights for various healthcare applications.
