Snowflake Inc., the data cloud company, announced Monday that it has achieved certification from the Dubai Electronic Security Centre, allowing it to provide services to government and semi-government entities in the emirate. This achievement will enhance their work with Arctic and their other data platforms as the company continues its growth.
The DESC certification is critical for cloud providers operating in Dubai. It ensures they meet stringent cybersecurity requirements necessary to serve government organizations through rigorous audits verifying compliance with international standards like ISO/IEC 27001 as well as local regulations.
Snowflake underwent an independent third-party assessment to complete the certification process. With this accreditation, the company can extend its data cloud services to Dubai's public sector while adhering to the mandated security framework and technical safeguards. The certification covers Snowflake's operations in the Azure UAE North region.
"As the Middle East rapidly advances its digital transformation and AI adoption, the need for reliable and secure cloud services is more critical than ever," said Mohamed Zouari, Snowflake's regional director. "This certification underscores our dedication to meeting the highest data security standards."
Zouari added that it positions Snowflake as a key player supporting economic diversification and digital strategies across the region while unlocking new business opportunities and strengthening its cybersecurity posture.
The certification comes as cloud computing's potential in the Middle East is immense. Government recognition of the technology's benefits is driving rapid adoption, propelling AI implementation. PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates cloud's economic impact in the region could reach $320 billion.
